All this means to me is that I will not be able to watch First Take, Around The Horn, Pardon The Interruption, Sports Center, or NFL Tonight in peace without someone on there bringing up Brett Favre's name. I mean seriously, am I watching sports shows or am I watching John & Kate plus 8? I can't even tell the difference anymore because they both are starting to feel like soap opera's. Well, actually, this Brett Favre thing started feeling like a soap opera a long time ago.

And anyone that tries to tell me that I'm bugging and that this is normal, needs to go see the same shrink that Octomom is seeing because it is not normal to have Rachel Nichols standing outside on your front lawn with a camera crew in tow. Even Packers fans have to be sick of this; it's obvious that the only reason Brett Favre is coming back is to stick it to the man, and Ted Thompson (Pause). I pleaded for Brett Favre to just stay retired before, but those wishes apparently fell on death ears.

Brett Favre is just being greedy right now. Do you think that he's even taking poor Sage Rosenfels into account? This man finally escaped out of Houston, and thought that he was onto greener pastures after signing a 3 year $9 million contract with Minnesota. All he had to do was beat out Tarvaris Jackson, and the starting quarterback job would be his. Mind you, even Akili Smith could have beaten out Tarvaris Jackson for the job. Jackson has the same accuracy as a third string pop warner quarterback, so Sage Rosenfels was probably on cloud 9 after signing that contract.

Imagine his face after turning on the television and finding out that the Minnesota Vikings are on the verge of signing Brett Favre. The Viking showed about as much committment to him as Lindsay Lohan and Amy Winehouse showed to rehab. So now, I am forced to hear about Brett Favre every 5 minutes on ESPN and all of the other sports websites that I go to, but I'm done with the soap opera this time. I will no longer utter those 2 words out of my mouth until he is a member of the National Football League. The only reason that I even wrote this blog was off of the strength of that photoshopped picture, which is priceless. So with that being said, I must say bye to Brett Favre, and all of the drama that he has brought with him.

So Long Brett Favre, until we meet again, September 13, 2009 at 1pm.

Donte' Stallworth gets only 30 days in Prison for DUI Manslaughter

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was able to cop a plea agreement that will require him to serve only 30 days in prison for DUI Manslaughter. I had so many thoughts running through my mind when I heard the news, but me being the journalist that I am, I will attempt to look at both sides.

The first thing that most people will point to is the fact that how can Michael Vick serve 2 years in jail for fighting dogs, yet Donte' Stallworth is only going to do 30 days in jail for driving under the influence, and striking and killing 59 year old Mario Reyes.

Reyes had just gotten off work, and was trying to cross the street to catch a bus, when he was struck by Stallworth who police say was driving 50 mph in a 40 mph zone.

By giving Stallworth such a weak jail sentence, it sends out the message that a human life is not that important. Matter of fact, it lets me know that a dog's life might very well be more important than a humans life.

You see how quick Peta was out there to protest at Michael Vick's trial. Do you think they would have cared that Donte' Stallworth hit and killed a man while driving under the influence? I doubt it. Me and D'Angelo had a conversation about this a while back, and I pointed out to him how people have been so in love with dogs since the days of Benji and Old Yeller. Heck, a lady even left $30 million to her dog in a Will a couple of years back.

I know I got a lil off topic, but those things needed to be said. Right now, our justice system is making it known that they value a dog's life more than a human's. I'm not trying to say that a dog's life is not important, but come on, 30 days for DUI Manslaughter? I can understand if he wasn't under the influence, but Stallworth had a blood alcohol level of .126 after the crash, which is well above Florida's legal limit of .08.

Now, the major difference in Stallworth's case and Vick's case is that Michael Vick lied to the feds about his involvement with dog fighting, and Donte' Stallworth was fully cooperative after the accident. He even stayed on the scene after the accident and waited for investigators to arrive.

On top of the 30 day jail sentence, Stallworth will have a lifetime suspension of his drivers license, meaning, he better have some really nice friends, or he'll need to learn the Bus routes in Cleveland. Also, he must serve 2 years of house arrest, 8 years on probation, and perform 1,000 hours of community service.

Finally, the main point in all of this is the victim's family. They reached an out of court settlement with Stallworth for an undisclosed amount of money, and are said to be glad that this whole matter is over with because they wanted the case resolved to avoid any more pain, which is understandable.

Although, I am still mad at our justice system because of many other cases involving injustice; it's hard for me to have the same disdain for a person who committed a crime, when victim's family have come to a settlement and found it in their hearts to forgive those involved.

I cannot be mad at Donte' Stallworth for having a good lawyer, who was able to get him only 30 days of jail time because if I was put in his situation, I would want to do as little jail time as possible too. I don't think anyone in their right mind would turn down a 30 day jail sentence when they are looking at 15 years if convicted; so, I can't blame him in this instance.

The only thing that I can blame is our society and a justice system that shows me if you have enough money to buy a good lawyer, you can make your legal woes go away or minimize the actual amout of jail time that you deserve, as we have seen with R. Kelly, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Plaxico Burress, T.I. etc... and now Donte' Stallworth.

Joe Budden Interview

I never really ever expected to meet my favorite rapper in person, but this past Saturday, Joe Budden was down in Orlando, promoting his new Padded Room album that is dropping on Tuesday, February 24th. He was real cool and down to earth. I got the chance to ask Joe Budden a few questions, well actually, I asked quite a few questions, and I didn't think to turn my video camera on until towards the end, but I did find out some very interesting information. Apparently, there is going to be a Wale and Joe Budden track in the works. You know that is gonna be sick. Padded Room in Stores Tuesday, February 24th!!!!!!!! and if you downloaded the album, still go out and cop the real thing. Show support to this man. He's been on his grind hard this year.

Youtube Page

Aight, so I decided to make a youtube page to help better promote "Keeping it Real with Jarrod Lawrence" and all of my other endeavers. In the process, I actually came up with the idea for a thing called "The Adventures of Jarrod Lawrence". This is basically a video that I shoot at any time I see or think of something interesting. It kind of has a Seinfeld feel to it because some times it is about a whole lot of nothing, but other times it can be very informative. I encourage everyone to check out my Youtube page at www.youtube.com/JarrodLawrenceRadio. I got some very funny stuff on there. And, I gotta give props to John McCain for the way that he handled the defeat. He was humble and was not bitter, and he spoke on unifying the country which is very important in this day and time.I think that the smartest campaign move that Obama made was linking McCain to George Bush from the get go. He kept hammering that into peoples heads and it really stuck with everyone. Also, McCain choosing Sarah Palin as his V.P. pick was what ultimately destroyed him. Sarah Palin clearly was not ready for such an important position, and the American people recognized that early on, and it shows with how fast his lead in the polls went down a week after making that decision.I thought that Barack Obama gave a great speech tonight, and he focused on the fact that we all need to come together and unite as a country; something that has sorely been missing the past few years. Everyone needs to realize that Rome was not built in a day, and all the economic and financial troubles that we have will not be solved overnight. But with time and patience, and unity we can all work together to solve these problems over time.In closing, I have noticed that there are a lot of people on here who are posting bulletins because they are upset that Obama won. And, all I have to say to that is "Finally" y'all know how we felt the last 8 years watching "W" win the elections. It sucks, doesn't it? lol, j/k. Y'all need to give Barack a chance. The man hasn't even stepped into the White House yet, and y'all are already writing him off.Why don't y'all just Give Change a Chance?

BARACK OBAMA IS MY PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama

LMAO, this video is just hilarious. I know that everyone wants to act like Racism doesn't exist anymore, and that we all need to just get over it, but we can't move forward until we actually admit that it's still out there and that it's a problem. You can't solve a problem without first admitting that there is a problem. So, once we all get on the same page about this issue, then we can start trying to move forward, but as long as there are still people out there like the people in these videos, then we will still be stuck in the past. Come on people, let's live in 2008, and not 1950. And someone please answer me this if you don't think these people are racist. How in the world, can someone say that they are a Hillary supporter, but then turn around and say that they are voting for McCain if Obama gets nominated? when Obama and Hillary have almost the same stance on a lot of issues. Are you voting for person because of the color of their skin or because you agree with where they stand on issues that are important to you? that's a question that everyone needs to ask themselves before they vote. There is a good chance, maybe not as good as 3 weeks ago, but there is still a good chance that Sarah Palin could be 2nd in command in 2009, and lord forbid if she is ever thrust into the Presidential Role. Oh yeah, be sure to check out the debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden going down at 9pm on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, FOX NEWS, CNBC, C-SPAN, etc...... Everyone should be able to see the debate no matter your cable provider. The biggest issue in this election is the war in Iraq, and if you are unsure on what John McCain's stance on the war or wars as he would put it, then you definitely need to watch this video because the war will have the biggest impact on America for years to come. It's not health care, taxes, or experience that is the biggest issue in this election; it is the war in Iraq that most people are split on. I suggest that everyone take a look at this video, whether you're for Obama or McCain, and then you can decide for yourself which candidate is best prepared to lead this country.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jarrodlawrenceradio.blogspot.com/2008/09/this-video-has-lot-of-truth-to-it.html' title='WAR!!!!! The key to being successful this season will be to get out to a fast start. The Steelers open the season against the Houston Texans in what will almost be a must win game. After that, the Steelers will be tested with games against the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, and Dallas Cowboys, just to name a few.

Head coach Mike Tomlin is entering his second season as Steelers head coach, and he should feel much more comfortable with his decision making and personel. The Steelers lost a few key veterans to free agency, but are replacing them with young players full of potential. Here is a position by position break down of what to expect from the respective players.

QUARTERBACKS: I fully expect Ben Roethlisberger to pick up where he left off. Last season, Big Ben threw for 3,154 yards, 32 Touchdowns, with only 11 interceptions. It was definitely a break out season for Ben, and with more weapons at his disposal this season, I would not be surprised to see his TD numbers somewhere in the high 30's. Charlie Batch was lost for the season with a broken collarbone, but Byron Leftwich allows Steelers fans to sleep a little better at night with his solid play in the preseason. I loved Dennis Dixon at the University of Oregon, but if it ever comes down to him starting a game for us this season, we are in serious trouble. He just didn't get enough game experience in the preseason for me to feel comfortable with him playing any meaningful snaps under center this season.

RUNNINGBACKS: Willie Parker looks to be fully healed from last seasons broken leg that cut his magnificent season short. All Willie Parker did prior to his injury was lead the NFL in rushing with 1,316 yards. His 2 td's is a bit of a concern with all the uncertainty that the Steelers have in their goal line running game, but I'm sure that Fast Willie will be up to the task if called upon. Rookie runningback Rashard Mendenhall showed a lot of promise in the preseason with his tough running between the tackles, but his fumbling issues might cost him the goal line carries in the long run. However, Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians has insisted that he will still involve Mendenhall in the gameplan, so hopefully this will be the last time we hear Rashard Mendenhall and fumble in the same sentence. Mewelde Moore will the third down back; he was brought in for his catching, running, and blocking skills. He will also help in the punt return game. Gary Russell will probably play minimally, but he could end up getting some goal line carries if Mendenhall continues to struggle with holding onto the ball.

FULLBACK: Carey Davis is the starting fullback, and is our only fullback. He is very solid in the pass catching department, although he is not quite the blocker that Dan Kreider was.

TIGHT ENDS: Heath Miller continues to grow into the one of the elite tight ends in the NFL. His numbers increased last season, 47 rec. 566 yards, and his 7 td's show that he is becoming a very reliable redzone target. Matt Spaeth provides Big Ben with a 6'7" target, and his 3 td's in limited time last season is encouraging. The Steelers signed a third tight end, Sean McHugh, formerly of the Detroit Lions earlier last week. I assume that he was signed strictly for his blocking purposes.

WIDE RECEIVERS: With Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes starting, the wide receivers look to be the most reliable offensive group aside from the quarterback position. Santonio Holmes keeps flirting with a break out year, 52 rec. 942 yards, 8td's, and this looks like the year where he finally reaches his potential of 1,000+ yards and 10+ td's. Holmes led the NFL last season with an 18 yards per reception average. Hines Ward is Mr. Reliable and the identity of this team; you already know what you're gonna get with him, so there is no need to explain. Nate Washington returns as the number 3 receiver, but it would not surprise me to see Dallas Baker take that spot from him at some point in the season. Much has been made about Limas Sweed being the number 3 receiver, but I believe that Baker is the dark horse here. At 6'3", 208 lbs, he has the size and great hands that could make him a surprise impact player on this team.

OFFENSIVE LINE: The offensive line looked less than spectacular in the preseason, and often times Ben Roethlisberger was seen running for his life; a site that is far to reminiscent of last season to Steelers fans. These offensive line woes could be due to the lack of cohesiveness or it could just be a preview of what Big Ben should expect this season. I am going to assume that this unit will be fine once they get some more experience playing together. The loss of Alan Faneca was a big blow, but Chris Kemoeatu looks ready, willing and able to take over at left guard. While he is no where near the pass blocker that Faneca was, he has a mean streak to him that will benefit him well as a run blocker. Justin Hartwig will almost definitely be an upgrade over Sean Mahan, and Marvel Smith looks to be fully healed from the back problems that plagued him last season. Willie Colon must step up and show the coaching staff something at Right Tackle or he will quickly be replaced by Max Starks.

DEFENSIVE LINE: The defensive line returns all three starters. Aaron Smith looked like an absolute beast in the preseason, and Casey Hamptopn seems to have his weight issues behind him; well, maybe not behind him, but atleast he will be able to use his weight to the be the run stuffing force that we all know him to be. This might be the season that we see Brett Keisel beak out. Keisel has been solid over the years, but just hasn't quite gotten over that hump yet. The back ups are not getting any younger, but they can be counted on if needed.

LINEBACKERS: If there is one player on the Steelers defense that you need to keep an eye on as a break out player candidate, it is none other than LaMarr Woodley. Taking over for the departed Clark Haggans at left outside linebacker, LaMarr Woodley is poised for big season after posting 6 sacks last season in limited time, including the playoffs. James Farrior is fresh off of a new contract, and does not look to be slowing down anytime soon. Larry Foote beat out Lawrence Timmons for the right inside linebacker position, but expect to see Lawrence Timmons still get a substantial amount of time due to his explosiveness and playmaking ability. James Harrison is coming off of his first Pro Bowl season, and will continue to play at a high level; he looked on blockable in the preseason, and as the strongest player on the Steelers, many can see why. The linebacker depth is pretty good with Andre Frazier, Donovan Woods, Timmons, Keyaron Fox, and Bruce Davis. Linebacker is arguably the deepest position on the team.

CORNERBACKS: Ike Taylor and Deshea Townsend will man the starting cornerback spots once again. Ike Taylor is growing into one the NFL's premier corners, and if he could just learn to hold onto an interception, he could probably end up with 5-8 picks a year. Supposedly, he has been working on his hands in the offseason, so this could be the season that Ike finally turns the corner into one the NFL's elite. Deshea Townsend needs to be called the Energizer Bunny because just keeps going, and going, and going. Every season, it is expected that some up and coming corner will take his job in training camp, but every season , Deshea Townsend fights off the competition like Kimbo Slice. Bryant McFadden could probably start for many teams in the NFL, and some people believe that he should be starting for the Steelers, but for now, he will be relegated to nickel back. I truly believe that McFadden will be starting over Townsend by the end of the season though; he is in a contract year, and had a fantastic preseason. It's only a matter of time before he gets his chance to shine. William Gay is someone to keep an eye on; he has excellent ball skills, and is a solid cover corner. He reminds me of a younger Deshea Townsend, with probably a little more speed.

SAFETIES: The biggest question with the safety position is whether Troy Polamalu will be healthy this season, and how effective will he be. Polamalu, when healthy, is one of the best safety's in the league, and he is also very vital to the Steelers defense because without him, the defense doesn't seem to function properly. He say out most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, but looks to be fully healed now, but we all know how tricky a hamstring injury can be.
Ryan Clark is back to full health, and deserves a standing ovation just for taking the field on Sunday. Clark missed most of last season after having his spleen removed and lost a considerable amount of weight. Clark was sorely missed last season (see Anthony Smith repeatedly getting burned deep), and brings some stability back the free safety position that has sorely been missed. If there was one thing that we learned last season, it is that Anthony Smith is not a free safety. He loves to hit people, but he can't cover a bed sheet on a mattress. Tyrone Carter is getting up there in age and is a liability in coverage, so that should tell you the importance on Ryan Clark. I would go as far to say that he his the Steelers most important defensive player. Without him, Troy Polamalu is not allowed to roam freely all over the field.

KICKING/SPECIAL TEAMS: The Kicking game will remain solid with Jeff Reed leading the way. Reed hit 92% of his field goals last season and made all of his PAT's. The punting situation scares me. Daniel Sepulveda was lost for the season after suffering a knee injury, and Mitch Berger has been brought back from the disco era to lead the way. I'm not sure how much he has left in the leg, but hopefully there is some accuracy in there. I'm not worried about the kick/punt return game with Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore handling kick returns, and Santonio Holmes and Moore taking care of the punt return duties. Kickoff and punt coverage have been concerns for Steelers coaches and fans for as long as I can remember, and I'm not sure if those concerns will be eased this year, but with the additions of players like Keyaron Fox, who were brought in specifically for there special teams skills, it does show me that the team is not taking this issue lightly.

The Steelers clearly have their work cut out for them, but with 19 out of 22 starters returning, this is obviously a veteran team that knows what to expect, and knows how to handle adversity. If the offensive line holds up, then the offense can really do some special things this season. Big Ben has all the tools, all he needs is the time to make things happen. The receivers are seasoned, and I expect them to put up some solid numbers. The running game will be productive, and Rashard Mendenhall should have a prominent role by seasons end. The defense returns virtually intact; LaMarr Woodley will be an upgrade over Clark Haggans, and should produce double digit sacks. With the enhanced pass rush, that should allow the secondary to make some more plays, and the return of Ryan Clark is a huge plus.

Although the Steelers have the NFL's toughest schedule, the playoffs are not out of the picture. If this team does what they are capable of, then they should not only make the playoffs, but they can go deep into the postseason. Whether that means Super Bowl number 6 remains to be seen, but with a solid offensive line and a strong pass rush, anything is possible; just ask the New York Giants.

Thoughts on Sarah Palin Speech at the RNC

Aight, I'ma give some props to Sarah Palin for her speech she just gave. It was definitely a lot better than I expected from her. She hit on a few issues, still could have touched on more stuff, but it is obvious to me now what her role in this campaign is. John McCain did not pick her for her experience in executive decisions or her knowledge of the Oil in Alaska. No my friend, John McCain picked her for the sole purpose to do his dirty work. I think she talked more about Obama than she did about actual issues, but I can't fault her for that; you gotta take advantage of those 15 minutes of fame.

I'm not gonna lie, Palin definitely got some good shots in, but she must have no idea who she is going against because I expect Barack to come back at her 10 times stronger than that. I'm not sure that she wants it with Obama because she was relatively unknown to people last week, but the dirt is starting to trickle out on her, and I'm pretty sure there is a lot more that will be learned about Sarah Palin in the coming weeks.

So with that being said, I will commend her for her speech because she was able to do what no other republican has done thus far, and that is finally bring some energy to an otherwise boring and lackluster campaign. I expect Obama to strike back fierce and swiftly though. Good Luck Sarah, I hope you can handle the heat because it is about to get Hot in Herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre.

Oh yeah, and what is up with the lack of Black people in the audience. I think I seen about 5, and the cameras made sure to show them as many times as possible. Makes me wonder who the RNC is really trying reach with their issues? they better step it up in that department if they expect to get a strong number of minority votes.
